The company name is based on the Inspirational, Motivational and Creative Adinkra Symbol of Wisdom, the Sankofa Bird.

Mary Nelson is the Founder / Director of Sankofa Directions. She has her own unique heritage and many experiences in different roles as a teacher, community worker, equalities manager and company director over many years in the UK, Jamaica and the USA. As well as this her personal role as a wife of a Jamaican proactively involved in his own business, and the mother of four aspiring young people of mixed heritage has provided her with a unique outlook on the education systems and their role in supporting the achievement of children and young people.

Mary Nelson is available to deliver CLASSROOM / COMMUNITY and STAFF WORKSHOPS and will support any size group in developing your school’s policy, documentation and practice related to culture and inclusion. Training can be tailored to your needs and delivered with individuals, groups or the whole staff.  Cluster and local authority training is also available.
